Finance and Operations Director

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or accounting

2. MA or MBA preferred

3. Certified through Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO)

4. Minimum of three years’ experience in fund accounting and/or school/government audits

Reports to: Superintendent

Purpose of Position: To oversee and provide primary business services and direction for the district

Period of Employment: 12-month position (year-round); 8 hours/day, 230 days/year

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day activities of business operations and associated personnel including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general accounting budget, and cash flow

  • Review general ledgers monthly and prepare adjustments, as needed

  • Provide pertinent financial information on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for the Board of Education in the area of budgets and general ledger detail

  • Monitor cash flow and prepare cash flow borrowing projections

  • Work with team members to prepare month end entries and bank reconciliations

  • Experience working with School Bonds and creating and managing Requests for Proposals for a school district

  • Responsible for information on the financial status of the district

  • Maintain the district’s budget transparency on the district website

  • Prepare applicable year end reports in the preparation of documents for the school district’s annual independent audit

  • Understands and demonstrates organization and administration, while working with public policy and legal issues

  • Understands and uses principles of school finance, budgeting and financial planning, accounting, auditing and financial reporting; cash management, investments and debt management; technology for school finance operations

  • Understands and demonstrates personnel development needs; labor relations and employment agreements; human relations

  • Understands and demonstrates ability for strategic planning; instructional support program evaluation; instructional program evaluation, communications; management information systems

  • Understands risk management; transportation program, food service program; custodial and maintenance program

  • As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours

  • Attend professional development workshops and trainings as requested and as appropriate

  • Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times

  • Keep the affairs of the school district and the Board of Education confidential at all times

  • Perform other duties as assigned
